About this deal

Ground plane is way more of a pain in the ass to setup, but is as accurate as you can get when measuring bass response. While it is true that portability is one of the main advantages of iLoud Micro studio monitors, it would be better though, if the speaker grilles could be removed. You get switches for bass and treble as well as a "DESKTOP" compensation switch - this lets you switch between a "free field" and "desktop" setup effortlessly. Overall, I would recommend these for everyone who have an limited desk space, but still require quality monitoring solution or just for audiophiles as general purpose PC speakers. The iLoud Micro Monitor system provides the necessary solution in situations where space is limited, as the speakers only require a small footprint and can thus be positioned in close proximity to the listener.

similar to amir though, i have to keep the gain very low even though i use a apple usb c dongle as the dac which i believe only outputs 1v. I'm comfortable doing 80% of the production and mixing work on them and only doing the last 20% on my main nearfield and headphones. For small studios in particular, we think the IK Multimedia iLoud Micro Monitor system excels in every respect. Going erect gets the speaker pointed more directly at the microphone, and as such we can see some gains in the treble response. Forum posts and video reviews where things are explained can be useful for ballparking certain things, but a video playing back music? The 3/4" silk-dome tweeters are smooth and defined to bring out the high-end detail of your favorite recordings.

I had this happen a few times, and if you play above 85dB for extended periods you will get used to seeing this light. I was first worried about their size but man they sound HUGE and have lot of bass and i'm talking about good bass and combine that with crispy highs and lovely mids and I didn't even had to use an EQ. You will be left with a smooth hump between 150Hz and 700Hz, but it's better than missing treble and peaky midrange. I suspect the measurement showed room modes but it was too aggressive in cutting them back seeing how with a small speaker some amount of room reinforcement should be left in there.I really like the small footprint of the 8010 and I’m sure they are good speakers but also much more costly than the iloud Micro 2x 237. Whether you're recording, editing, mixing, or mastering audio, iLoud Micro Monitor ensures your mix will translate well to the huge variety of consumer devices - headphones, home stereo systems, gaming consoles, car audio systems, TVs, and other listening systems. Only downside in my personal opinion is lack of balanced inputs as usually Sound interfaces have balanced outputs via TRS so you you would need adapter cable to connect these into professional audio interface. The success of achieving such an accurate sound in a small box comes largely from the integrated digital signal processing. The first thing to note about the IK Multimedia iLoud Micro Monitor set is that they are indeed small.

In a nutshell, the measurements show the actual sound coming out of the speaker independent of the room. The iLoud MTM firmly belongs in "pro" space with this kind of good on-axis response and reasonable directivity. From the calibration EQ to the isolation stands; these are all sensible, practical additions that elevate the iLoud Micros above other speakers in their class. This is a robotic measurement system that analyzes the speaker all around and is able (using advanced mathematics and dual scan) to subtract room reflections (so where I measure it doesn't matter). Presumably for ease of portability, power and sound are also transmitted to one speaker, which then sends the sound and power to the other speaker. Sure they're small, low powered and "only" go down to 55Hz (-3dB) and their 3" woofers won't do subs or move tons of air but that's not the intended purpose, they are (very) near field speakers. When I saw these videos I also was asking myself how much marketing is it and how much IK was involved?

Although they’re small, bear in mind if you’re taking them on the move, you’ll also need considerable space in your backpack for that chunky speaker cable and power block. I wondered what the auto-EQ would do so I plugged in the mic and followed the instructions to start the calibration. Preamp gains not to be ignored, clipping may be an issue so the EQ might diminish even further the dynamic range of the speaker. It would be nice to see these in different colours, perhaps with a shape modification, if acoustics allow. The real problem tonally that could be fixed with EQ is the boundary gain, where the woofer and it's reflection start acting like one source. The iLouds are in a class of their own, with the nearest competitor perhaps being the more expensive Genelec 8010As. Thanks to its long-lasting battery, iLoud is the ideal speaker to be carried around by mobile musicians whether they're composing, recording or they simply want to listen to high-quality music anytime and everywhere. Although, these metal grilles are used to protect the speakers, they have a negative effect on sound quality. The iLoud monitors are similar in size to many domestic playback systems, and can give producers or composers a good idea of what the mix will sound like in the real world. The speakers are great for what they are, and that’s a 3 inch monitor, just NOT great at what they aren’t, and that’s a 5 inch and beyond monitor.
