Despite its age, the use of the AMD Ryzen 5 5500U is also a decent choice because it offers good efficiency rates in addition to ample performance, which allows for long battery life. But three factors come to its aid, including generously sized keys, quiet operation and a spacious precision trackpad.The battery won't get you through a full day's use, although fast charging may come to the rescue if you can access a short burst of mains power. As noted earlier, it's available in just one configuration in the UK, with an 11th-generation Core i5-1135G7 CPU with integrated Intel Xe Graphics, 8GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD. The Huawei MateBook D 15 (2020) comes in a single configuration with a quad-core AMD Ryzen 5 3500U processor, 8GB RAM and 256GB. We measure a maximum of just under 60 watts in the stress test, and analogous to the processor's TDP, this value drops to around 55 watts in the course of the test. The Wi-Fi module from RealTek doesn't support Wi-Fi 6 yet, but its performance is stable in our standardized test with the Netgear Nighthawk AX12 router, and there shouldn't be any problems in everyday use. The 1,920 x 1,080 IPS screen tops out a maximum brightness of just 135cd/m² (which is very poor), with an sRGB coverage and volume of 55.

At a reduced 1,280 x 720 resolution, Doom ran smoothly enough at between 40 and 50fps depending on the level of onscreen mayhem. While 8GB of RAM is the amount we’d like Windows 10 laptops to come with as a minimum, the 256GB SSD is a bit on the tight side – you may find yourself running out of disk space, especially if you have large collections of big files, such as videos and music. In comparison with the competition from Lenovo, Acer, or Dell, the MateBook primarily looks much higher-quality thanks to the metal case.
Huawei adds a few innovative features, and we’d like to see more of that in the future as the company becomes more confident in its own design department. With our own calibration, we can primarily improve the grayscales, but there isn't much to do when it comes to the colors. In the past we’ve been mightily impressed with Huawei’s devices, including the Huawei MateBook 13, the 2018 model of the Huawei MateBook D and the flagship Huawei MateBook X Pro, and with this impressive start, we’re hoping that the company can continue that run of successful laptops with the new and improved MateBook D 15. We gather data from the best available sources, including vendor and retailer listings as well as other relevant and independent reviews sites. For that money, you get an 11th gen Core i5 processor, a 512GB SSD, 8GB of RAM and a Full HD IPS display. Despite taking a lot of design cues from Apple, it also includes some useful innovations, like a hidden webcam in the keyboard and NFC sharing with compatible smartphones, but the battery life and screen are disappointing.There are no changes in terms of design, and the D 15 is identical to the MateBook D 14 in many ways, save for the size, which is why we shall refer our readers to the review of the D 14 in certain sections instead of providing detailed descriptions.
