About this deal

The staff were well known to customers and to a wider public for their skills. An article in Cycling Weekly dated February 26th 1994 refers to several employees –“Robert Badger worked at the shop in Upper Street in Islington and now trades as Roberts Rebuilds in Crouch End. Pat Hanlon, who later had a shop in Bowes Roadn was their wheelbuilder”. I think it’s more about the simplicity of the manufacturing process,” says Drew Guldalian of Pennsylvania-based custom builder Engin Cycles. “Boring out a [standard] BB30 is not impossible, but in my opinion it’s an unrealistic task from a manufacturer’s standpoint that needs to do something to make money. And as with all advice, you need to try suggested remedies out yourself and find which one works for you. Specialized‘s OSBB system is nearly identical to BB/PF30 but with a few key differences, according to the company’s director of advanced research, Chris D’Aluisio.

Even if those tolerances have been met, small movements with the natural motion of your bike results in surface moving against surface—that will be your creaking, right there. BB30 HISTORY With perfect alignment there is almost no chance at all of cross-threading. You can be almost 100% sure that if there is resistance from the getgo, you have probably cross-threaded the bearing cup to the BB shell. With the front wheel further out front, there’s less chance you’ll dive over it. The seat angles of both bikes are steep so the front wheels aren’t so lightly loaded that they’ll snow-plough through turns or lift up on climbs.BB30 shells, however, do require more stringent dimensional tolerances to work well, meaning that they’re more expensive to manufacture. Moreover, with the notable exception of Felt, which uses a carbon tube, BB30 also usually employs an alloy shell insert that has to be bonded or co-moulded into an otherwise carbon frame. If for some reason the threads are really tough and need a thorough cut (could be that tapping was never done on the original install), you may need to apply oil several times. Other notes OSBB for mountain bikes appears to be PF30 (post 2010). An older 84.5x46mm BB appears to be obsolete. PF30A and PF30-83 Ai Adapters are available to join hoses to each other Male-Male "A" or Male-Male "B" fittings, sold in pairs, Scott US marketing and PR director Adrian Montgomery touts similar reasons for his company choosing BB86/92 over other standards:

Turning the bearing cup with the wrench to the point where no more movement possible will give you a torque setting of between 35-38 Nm. More recently, Cannondale announced a variant of BB30 called BB30A. This uses a shell that’s 5mm wider than the original but it’s an asymmetrical layout that only adds those extra millimetres on the non-driveside. According to Cannondale, this allows for wider bearing spacing and better spindle support (which should improve bearing longevity).

Components

Specialized uses PF30 for its high-end mountain bike, confusingly also calling it OSBB though it is a different standard to the OSBB standard found on its road bike. So I’d not go bigger than 29×2.6in – still a big tyre. The Whyte 529 is also routed for a dropper seatpost, contrary to appearances. BB shell width 86.5mm road, 91.5mm MTB. Other widths may be named according to shell dimensions: 89.5mm, 104.5mm, 107mm, 121mm, 132mm Effectively, the space previously taken up by the bearing cups can now be used as frame real-estate, allowing larger (and stiffer) tubes to be used.

Terry has had riders winning time trials on his frames since 1980 including competition records and national championships. “We know how to make a bike fast” says the designer of the frame who has been involved in designing bikes to win Grand Tour Prologues, the Grand Prix des Nations and setting Hour records. All that experience over the years has come together in this one frame. All frame numbers supplied to the marque register to date are set out below. The current whereabouts of all these frames is not known because, in many cases, the registrar was asked to date a frame prior to its sale:-When squeezing the budget to build a bike to a price, tyres are usually one of the first casualties. Not here. Both bikes use decent all-round tyres from Maxxis: Ardents front and rear for the Voodoo; Ardent front and a faster-rolling Crossmark II rear for the Whyte. To compare the results between different bursts and to investigate the difference quantitatively, we further calculate the difference of the parameters (Δ α and Δ E c), as shown in Figure 9. To have a global view on the difference, we plot the distributions of parameters (top panels of Figure 9). For Δ α, one has Δ α = −0.14 ± 0.28. For Δ E c, we get log Δ E c =2.42 ± 0.68. These results indicate that the spectral parameters are prominently changed. The distribution of the energy flux shows two peaks, with the first dominant one around 3 × 10 −6, and the second smaller one peaks at ∼10 −4. Both the CPL and CPL+BB models exhibit similar behaviors. The majority of Δ α is below 0 and Δ E c is above 0, which are consistent with the above results (see bottom panels of Figure 9). To determine the prominence of the thermal component, we also calculate the ratio (F BB/F tot) between the thermal flux and the total flux (see bottom panels of Figure 9). We find the ratio varies from burst to burst, and within a burst, with the range from ∼ 0.2% to ∼ 70%. The results indicate that some bursts (e.g., GRB 100724B) present no obvious evolution of the ratio, while other bursts present dramatically evolution within the burst (e.g., GRB 100707). Instead of bearing pressed into aluminium cups that were then threaded into the frame, Trek pressed the bearings directly into the frame. In the photo you see hoses at the bottom, adapter fittings in the middle and torch bases at the top.
